How We Grow

Mad Farmers' Nursery started simply to supply the best plants to our farm. We wanted the strongest plants possible, using the best varieties for our climate, and at the right time for our weather. And now we can supply those for your garden too!

At Mad Farmers Nursery, we grow our garden plants from seed ourselves, using only organic potting mix and fertilizer to make strong, healthy plants, and never use any chemical pesticides. We carefully select varieties that we know will thrive in our Central Indiana climate--varieties that we use on the farm ourselves.

Some of the native plants in our nursery are grown by us, and others are sourced from trusted local wholesale nurseries who use local seed sources.

We Offer

Garden Plants

Mad Farmers Nursery grows a wide variety of plants for your spring, summer, and fall home or community garden.

We are a small nursery, so you won't find every plant here (sorry, no petunias!), but the ones we carry are farmer-approved and ready to thrive in Indiana's wild weather!

  • Veggies and herbs for spring, summer, and fall gardens
  • Perennial berries
  • Plants to grow your own tea blends
  • Flowers for a cutting garden and flowers that attract beneficial insects

Plants are typically available April through mid-June, and again in September.

We Offer

Native Plants

Growing native plants is terribly important to our ecosystem. Learn more about the benefits of adding native plants to your landscape and how YOU can be part of the nationwide movement to restore habitat, one yard at a time. Plus, native plants add beauty to your space, and it is delightful to attract butterflies, birds, moths, and insects to your garden!

Our selection will vary from season to season, but expect to find plants that are especially well-suited to smaller urban and suburban spaces.

  • Plants for a pollinator patch
  • Plants for rain gardens
  • Plants for shade gardens
  • Smaller trees and shrubs

Native trees and shrubs we have carried in the past include Serviceberry, American Currant, Paw Paw, Arrowwood Viburnum, Spicebush and Smooth Hydrangea.

Plants are typically available April through mid-June, and again in September through October.

We offer

    2025 details:
